By virtue of “artificial micro structures”,multi-dimensional optical field modulation can be achieved in micro-nano optics, including the amplitude, phase, polarization, and wavefront, which significantly surpasses the modulation with natural materials. Therefore, research at the micro-nano level is considered a vital branch of optics. Micro-nano optical devices not only promote the thinning and integration of optical systems, but also significantly empower the advancement of intelligent sensing technology, which is one of the key strategical areas of national interest. Currently, micro-nano optics faces four major bottlenecks: an unclear modulation mechanism for the optical field, inaccurate cross-scale manufacturing of optical devices, low precision in optical detection, and insufficient system design capabilities, all of which have significantly limited the application of micro-nano optical devices.
This division is devoted to the study of the regulation mechanism, device design, characteristic fabrication, and integrated applications of wafer-level micro-nano optical devices. The research direction focuses on theories of optical field modulation, computational electromagnetism, micro-nano machining technology, and on-chip integration applications.
This division is committed to developing multi-dimensional spectral microscopy, as well as the optical analysis of micro-nanostructures and their optoelectronic devices. The research fields mainly include near-field spectroscopy and microscopy, micro-optoelectronic devices, ultrafast dynamics of low-dimensional materials, and low-temperature photo-physics.
This division is committed to the study of computational imaging technology and intelligent sensing application systems with the help of micro-nano optical devices and deep learning. The research field mainly includes a computational imaging theory and system design, deep learning algorithm and hardware implementation, as well as the integration and application of an intelligent sensing system.
